The Supreme Court today agreed to answer a state law question posed by the Ninth Circuit in Wishnev v. Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, which concerns the intersection of usury and insurance law.
Today’s grant continues a string of successful requests by the Ninth Circuit that a practitioner petitioning for review can only dream of. There have now been 12 straight request grants and 20 grants of the last 21 requests, and even the one denial during that time wasn’t a real denial. There hasn’t been a flat “no” since exactly six years ago today.
