Pro tems announced for January calendar

There is a vacancy on the Supreme Court because of Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar’s October retirement.  Until a replacement is appointed, confirmed, and sworn in, the court will enlist Court of Appeal justices to sit pro tem.

The court today announced the pro tems — assigned on a mostly alphabetical basis — for the two-case January calendar (linked post includes descriptions of the cases’ issues). This will be the fourth straight oral argument session with only six permanent justices.

The January pro tems are:

People v. Lopez: First District, Division Two, Justice Marla Miller.

People v. Bracamontes: Fourth District, Division Two, Justice Frank Menetrez.
